April 1 (Thurs) Go with the Flow Clackamas River Hike + Bagby Soak Too! - Class B
Hike Canceled By Leader
Join Joe and friends on this second annual hike as we go upstream along the scenic Clackamas River trail. After lunch, back in cars for 45 minute ride to Bagby Hot Springs trailhead. Dress for colder conditions than Portland. Bring suits and towels but be okay with possible clothing optional conditions at Bagby. Hike 8/9 miles with 1200 feet of up-and-down elevation. Drive 120 miles round trip.
Depart: 9:15 am from NE corner, Clackamas Fred Meyer Parking lot (off 224). Call leader if more complete meeting direction are needed. Return to Portland about 7 pm

April 3 (Sat) Willamette Park to Tryon Creek Park Dog Friendly Hike - Class B
Spring is here and flowers are blooming. Hike from Willamette Park Greenway
and up to the ridge top via stairs and go from there to Tryon Creek Park.
Along the way, hopefully, we will see lots of trillium blooming. Hike
the trails in Tryon Creek Park before returning to Willamette Park. We
will hike 10 miles but the elevation gain has not been measured. If you
would like to have a restaurant lunch after the hike bring money.

April 3-4 (Sat-Sun) Dublin Lake backpack - Class C
10 mile round trip. Class C because of elevation gain and possible snow.
Come join us for a strenuous hike to Dublin Lake up the Tanner Creek
Trail. If we feel adventurous we may come down the old Billy Goat trail
and head back to the cars on Sunday or we may try for a summit of Tanner
Butte.Must register with leader.

April 4 (Sun) Hike on the Wilson River Trail - Class A
The slightly delayed Annual President's Hike will go along the Wilson River trail from the Tillamook Forest Center downstream to the "footbridge" where we will stop for lunch before heading back. This is a nice, minimal gain walk along the "far side" of
the river away from the highway. Hike 5.4 miles with little elevation change. Driving
distance 65 miles.

April 8 (Thurs) - Tanasbourne Bike Ride - Class A
This will be an easy first ride of the season,exploring Washington County farmland and neighborhoods with a visit to Dawson Creek Park. Mileage: about 20.

April 8 (Thurs) Beginning Backpacking clinic
The Trails Club Backpack Committee will present an evening clinic on basic backpacking. It is aimed at those who are new to backpacking, first time backpackers, and those who would like to refresh their knowledge or gear. This will cover the basics of backpacking. It will focus on the gear to take, but will also cover general guidelines, planning, what NOT to take, and how to pack. In addition to the presenter, there will be several experienced backpackers on hand to assist with your questions and gear issues.

April 8 (Thurs) Sandy River Delta aka "Dog Heaven" Hike - Class A
Dog friendly, bird watching friendly, and photo friendly ramble in the Forest Service and State lands between the Sandy River and the Columbia. If you have not been there for a while, you will be surprised at all the new trails. The exact route will depend on the water level of the run off from the Sandy and the Columbia but I hope to cover about 6 miles with no elevation gain. Bring water friendly shoes as we may get muddy feet. Call me if you plan to bring your dog - most of the time the dogs can be off lead but they must be under voice command.
Depart: From Lewis & Clark State Park near the restroom (exit 18 from I-84) at 9:30 am and we will drive to the parking area for the trail head which is only about 1/3 mile away.

April 11 (Sun) Coyote Wall Loop Hike - Class B
Hike 5.8 miles with 1700 feet elevation gain on the Washington side of the Gorge between Hood River and The Dalles. We may also catch the last of the wildflowers in this grassy area dotted with woodlands. Views are great up and down the Columbia. Dress for poison oak. Bridge tolls to be shared. Drive is 130 miles roundtrip.

April 10th - 11th (Sat-Sun) Nesika Beautification Weekend and Trail building Trip
Meet at Gateway at 8:00 Saturday morning or Palmer Mill Gate at 9:00 AM.
Let's bring the past back to Nesika. In 1944 there is a write-up that states, " April 1-2, Nesika Trail Building Trip". If they can do it in 1944 we can do it now. Come spend a free weekend at Nesika for trail building, road clearing and Nesika beautification. Food is pot luck for Saturday, dinner and Sunday Breakfast. Bring your own lunches. Bring some annual flower or garden starts or seeds for your lodge fee. Bring your favorite gardening equipment. We are planning on possibly doing some terracing on the north side of Nesika. We are planning on planting some annuals around the lodges for beauty. No bushes, shrubs or perennials. Garden plants OK. No corn. Start your seedlings now and plan on working in the dirt.

April 17 (Sat) East Gorge Hike - Class A
Third in a series of Gorge hikes by Gary. Checking conditions and group ideas we will make a decision. Hoping for a hike east of Hood River of 5-8 miles in either Oregon or Washington. Contact leader for more information about the hike as the date draws near. Leader is open to hiking ideas.
Depart: 8:30 am from Troutdale city parking lot, east side of the downtown Troutdale area north side of street across from City Hall. From Portland take exit 17 off I-84 and turn left at the second stoplight, go to the main street and turn left.

April 17 (Sat) Cascade Head Preserve Hike - Class A/B
Hike postponed to April 24 in hopes of accommodating healing for leader Joe's foot problem. Advanced sign up with leader is required. If weather is bad on the 24th the hike will not go and will not postpone to a later date.
Yeah, a two hour drive to trailhead, near Lincoln City, but here's what you get on this Nature Conservancy trail: coastal rainforest with huge Sitka Spruce giving way to grassland with increasingly stunning views of Salmon River Delta, coastal surf panorama looking south, and the coast range mountains looking down on it all from the east. And wildflowers, too? Short but, at times, steep trail. Afterwards drive to Neskowin for coffee and a stroll on the beach. Hike 5.5 miles with approximately 1,200 feet elevation gain. Drive 180 miles round trip.
Depart: 9 am from the Target parking lot listed under Meeting Places. Return 5:50-7:00 pm.

April 17-18 (Sat-Sun) Eagle Creek Backpack - Class B
We'll take the Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia Gorge past scenic Punchbowl Falls and Tunnel Falls, six miles from the trailhead. Trail has many scenic sections blasted directly out of rock, high above Eagle Creek. Camping will be at campsites about .9 of a mile past Tunnel Falls. Elevation gain will be 1200 to 1300 feet. In case of rain, hike may be changed to one in eastern Oregon. There should be time on Sunday to hike further up the trail on Sunday.

April 18 (Sun) Hike Gorge Waterfall Loop - Class A/B
Rain or shine, this is one of the prettiest hikes in the Columbia Gorge. We'll take in Multnomah Falls, Wahkeena Spring, Fairy Falls and Wahkeena Falls on this beautiful loop hike. Hike 5.5 miles with 700 feet elevation gain. Drive 30 round trip miles.

April 20 (Tue) Women's Beginning Backpacking Class - Class A
This class is for women hikers who would like to branch out into backpacking.
Topics to be covered include packs, tents, sleeping gear, food, cooking,
water purification, clothing and hygiene on the trail. The class will
be followed by a one night backpack with dates and destination to be
decided by the group. Class size limited to 6.

April 22 (Thurs) Cherry Orchard Hike - Class B+
Strenuous climb up a series of steep benches above Lyle, Washington, gaining 1,000 feet elevation in the first mile. Then we'll head more gently cross-country up ridges through oak woodlands and end at an abandoned cherry orchard for lunch. We'll return on the trail. Great wildflowers and views. Be prepared for ticks and poison oak. Hike 6-7 miles with 1,800 feet elevation gain. Drive 120 miles round trip. Bridge tolls.

April 24 (Sat) Nesika Membership Qualifying Hike - Class B
A beautiful trek up from Multnomah Falls Lodge to the historic and tranquil
grounds of our own Trails Club Nesika Lodge, offering a babbling creek,
lush woods and invigorating but gradual elevation along the way. Trails
Club folks will be at the lodge working so it will be open for your visit.
Bring water and lunch or snacks. Hike approximately 7-8 miles round trip
with 1700-1800 feet elevation gain. Moderate-plus pace. Drive 48 miles
round trip.

This
is a fully supported metric century (100 km ~ 62.5 mi) organized by the Salem Bicycle Club.
It requires registration with the SBC - see the web page

The route is relatively flat and goes between Salem and Champoeg State Park.
