June 5 (Sat) Salmon River / Cascade Head Kayak - Class 2
This is a day paddle on the coastal Salmon River near Otis, OR. Launching at the Knight Park Boat Ramp we will proceed upstream investigating the estuary as far as the Hywy 101 bridge, then proceed downstream to the sand spit short of the river mouth for a lunch stop and walk on the isolated and beautiful beach below Cascade Head. After enjoying the spit we'll paddle the short return distance to the launch. Register with leader. Paddle 8 mi. Drive 150 miles rt.

June 5th (Sat) Gresham to Troutdale Bike Ride - Class B
The ride is approx. 28 miles, with 500' elev.gain.
Meet at Gresham City Park off Main St. park by the S.W.trail.
We will ride from Gresham on the S.W.trail to Boring and cross
Hwy.26 on 212 and continue east and then north to Troutdale
where we will have lunch at Glen Otto Park. We will return to
Gresham on Halsey st & 262nd.

June 5 (Sat) East Gorge Hike - Class A

This is the last in a series of Gorge hikes by Gary. Checking conditions and group ideas we will make a decision. Hoping for a hike east of Hood River of 5-8 miles in either Oregon or Washington. Contact leader for more information about the hike as the date draws near. Leader is open to hiking ideas.
Depart: 8:30 am from Troutdale city parking lot, east side of the downtown Troutdale area-north side of street across from City Hall. From Portland take exit 17 off I-84 and turn left at the second stoplight, go to the main street and turn left.

June 6 (Sun) Ramona Falls Loop Hike - Class A
We will hike the loop trail to and from Ramona Falls on the west side of Mount Hood. Loop trail leads up the Sandy River to the picturesque falls for lunch and comes back a scenic trail through the woods on the return. Moderate pace with total mileage of 6.8 miles with 700 feet of elevation gain. Register with leader before 9:00 pm on Friday, June 4, as this hike goes into the Mt. Hood Wilderness and group must be held to 12 hikers. Drivers need a trailhead parking permit.Depart: 8:00 am from Gateway Park and Ride.

Starting at Creston park we'll do a fifteen mile loop, going south to Crystal springs, back north along 26th, past Ladd's addition, across the Hawthorne bridge, back across the Burnside up to Laurelhurst, then side streets back south to Creston Park. June 12 (Sat) 18th Annual Strawberry Century Bike Ride - Class C
Strawberry Shortcake will be served at the end of the ride by the Santiam Spokes, after two full sag stops along the route. You have a choice of 13, 53, 72 or 101 sweet miles on this organized ride thru Linn County. Enjoy little traveled backroads, historic towns and scenic views of the Cascades and the Willamette Valley. Pre-registration fee of $20 must be received by June 4th, 2010. You can download the form directly from their website www.santianspokes.org . Day of the ride charge is $25. (plus the TC fee)
We will ride as a Trails Club Group, meeting at 6AM in Wilsonville and caravanning to Lebanon High School. Gerda will lead the 53 miles, Allen will ride the longer route and would love to have someone to join him.

June 12 (Sat) Nesika Lodge Membership Qualifying Hike - Class B
Enjoy the view from the top of Multnomah Falls then continue to follow the canyon upward passing several other waterfalls as you climb along the fern and forest lined trail. Our ultimate goal is for you to eat your lunch beside the fireplace at Nesika Lodge or at the exceptional panoramic view from Waespe Point. This hike and lodge visit meet club membership requirements. Sturdy hiking boots and a walking stick are recommended. Bring water and lunch. Hike about 8 miles with about 1800 feet of elevation gain.

June 12 (Sat) Nesika Work Trip
Nesika is always beautiful in June. Come and enjoy our beautiful Lodge and
enjoy the Columbia Gorge, especially from Waespe Point. We will be working
on the siding of the Women's Dorm, building privacy screens inside the dorm,
rebuilding the porches on the men's dorm, clearing the mid-height brush
for our fire break, starting work on an extension of the stone retaining
wall, working on the propane shelter, as well as the standard maintenance
for the year.

June 13-16 (Sun-Wed) Upper Klamath Wildlife Refuge Kayak - Class 1
We will tent camp at the Rocky Point Resort. The 9.5 mile canoe trail
is on quiet waters. A large variety of birds live in this marshland:
eagles, pelicans, herons, cranes, many species of ducks, etc. We will
see beaver lodges and spectacular scenery. Tent sites are $22 a night
for two people, $4 for an additional person in the same site (max 4).
Leader has reserved all 5 tent sites at lake front. Register with leader
to coordinate the tent sites. Cabins, trailer sites, canoe rentals are
also available. Stay 3 nights. Activities: kayak, hike, bike, fish, or
relax on any of the days. Drive: approx 280 miles.

June 15-17 (Tue-Thu) Oregon Trail Car Camp Adventure
Description: I did a part of my graduate work on the Oregon Trail. We will explore, by foot and by car, the remnants of the Oregon Trail west of Echo, Oregon, to the Deschutes River Crossing.
Details: Two nights camping at Deschutes State Park, hikes, short walks and drives.
Day 1 - Set up camp, hike on the Oregon Trail east of the Deschutes River.
Day 2 - Drive east on I-84 to Echo (before you get to Pendleton) and return west on side roads that closely follow the Oregon Trail route. Return to Deschutes River State Park for the night.
Day 3 - Hike the Deschutes River trail. Return home.

Nesika Open
Cindy Lee and I will be hosting at Nesika Lodge this Saturday, June 19th. We won't arrive until later in the day, 3 or 4 pm however. We'll close up on Sunday afternoon after lunch.
Because this is last minute, it can be pot luck - bring your own food. But if anybody would like to join us for meals, please let me know by Thursday evening. We can make dinner and breakfast.

June 19 (Sat) Hike Bluff Mt. to Silver Star Mt. - Dog Friendly - Class C
Because of the summer solstice, we will have a really long day to hike this wonderful and scenic trail which approaches Silver Star via a long ridge walk with wildflowers galore. A long and bumpy drive but this hike is worth the trip! Bring sunscreen, plenty of water, lunch and some snacks to share if you wish. Total elevation gain is 2600 feet but with the total mileage of 13. 2 miles, the trail is never steep and the pace will be moderate. There is one place that may have some exposure. Call me if you plan bring a dog. Dogs must be in good shape. Plan for their water as there is little shade and no water. Drive is 90 miles round trip.

June 19-20 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Work Weekend
This will be our first work weekend for Tyee. Projects include: inventory of supplies, take down avalanche signs, assess winter snow damage, clean out storage room, and seal vents, cleaning fire place and more. Time in the evening to explore area. Lodging and meals free to volunteers. We'll have the work party even if West Leg Rd. is still closed. Plan on arriving by 10AM Sat. Lodge will close Sun. at 2PM. RSVP for work weekend by Wed. June 16th.

June 20 (Sun) Mt St. Helens Area Hike - Class B
Hike two separate areas. First hike Lava Canyon, which was exposed in the
blast of 1980. Starting at the top we walk along the Muddy River descending
1400 feet, crossing a suspension bridge and a 40 foot metal ladder. After
lunch at the bottom we return to the cars and drive back ten miles to explore
Ape Cave. We will hike the part that is 1.2 miles long and those who wish
may retrace their steps or exit the cave and return along the trail. Eight
miles total hiking. Drive 140 miles round trip. Bring flashlight, lunch,
water.
Depart: 9 am Gateway Park and Ride. Return 6 pm.

June 25-26 (Fri-Sat) Upper Twin Lake / Palmateer Point Backpack- Class A
We'll backpack three miles, past Lower Twin Lake to Upper Twin Lake or Palmateer Creek, set up camp, and then do a side trip to scenic Palmateer Point. Return trip will be along the Pacific Crest Trail. Starting on Friday and setting up camp beyond Lower Twin Lake should provide for solitude. Mileage of the whole loop is nine miles with 1500 feet of elevation gain.

June 26 (Sat) Hike Nick Eaton - Gorton Creek - Class B
Hike up moderately steep trail to Nick Eaton Ridge. We will traverse to Indian Point for magnificent views during lunch, then descend the well-graded Gorton Creek trail through verdant old-growth forest. Wilderness Area so maximum of 12 people. Hike 8 miles with 2600 feet elevation gain. Drive 80 miles round trip. Trailhead parking pass required.

June 26 (Sat) Cooper Mtn Children's Hike - Class A
Join us for an adventure at Cooper Mountain Nature Park. All children with parents are welcome! TCO fees are $1.00 for members and $2.00 for adult non-members. No fees for children. We will meet at 9:45 a.m. and start at 10:00 a.m. from the Park entrance with the red Nature House and parking lot. Address: 18892 SW Kemmer Road, Aloha.
The walk will be about 2.5-3 hours and 4 miles. There are wildflowers, butterflies, birds, various trees and wildlife to enjoy. The views are breathtaking. It is a graveled path that is a little hilly with some ups and downs. No DOGS as dogs, horses, and other pets are prohibited at Cooper Mountain Nature Park.
Bring water, snacks and lunches.
Directions: It is located on the west end of Cooper Mountain. Take Farmington Road from Beaverton and travel West to SW 185th. Turn left (South) on 185th and go up the hill. 185th will end by taking a 90 degree turn to the right and becomes Gassner Road. Continue West on Gassner to 190th. Turn left (South) on 190th & go to SW Kemmer Rd. Turn Left on Kemmer Road. You will see the red Nature House and parking lot on your Right.

June 26 (Sat) Independence / Buena Vista Bike Ride - Class B
A late spring ride thru the farmlands and fields of Polk County. Mostly
flat with rolling hills. App. 28/30 mile ride. Ride begins in Independence
to Monmouth, to Helmick State Park with lunch stop at the Buena Vista Ferry.
Then we return to Indpendence. Bring lunch and water. Meet at the Riverview
Park in Independence. Drive south on I-5 take the Salem Parkway then W on
Hwy 22 cross over the Willamette River to Hwy 51 South to 200 S.Main St in
Independence. The park is on your left. Turn left and park down by the river.

June 26-27 (Sat-Sun) Birthday Party Potluck at Tyee.
Come celebrate Jane Olsen’s 80th at our favorite place on the mountain. The party
starts at 11:00 am with a potluck at 1:00 pm. The slide show will be at 3:00 pm.
Christine is putting together pictures, and would like any submissions that you
may have to contribute (by June 18). There will also be a few pictures of life
in the 1930’s and 1940’s. For the pot luck and Sat only there will be a $2.00 day
fee, with left overs for Saturday dinner for those who would like to stay into
the evening hours. For those wanting to stay overnight Saturday, the overnight
fee will include breakfast. $13.00 for members and $18.00 for guests.

June 26th - July 2nd (Sat-Fri) Plantation Loop Road to Belden PCT Backpack - Class C
Join us for 80 miles of backpacking starting at Plantation Loop road on the North side of Lassen. Elevation is starting at 5500 feet up to highest point of 7000 feet, down to 2300 feet in
Belden. We will hike through Hot spring areas on the east shoulder of Mt Lassen to desert/volcanic areas on the south side of Lassen. Plan on 7 day food supply. No resupply points unless someone volunteers to resupply us. Snow should be gone or minimal. Ticks may be out so wear long pants and gators. Plan on 12 mile days. Limit 6 people.

The Hugos are hosting their extended family at Nesika and welcome additional guests. Enjoy an inexpensive summer getaway at Nesika. You will be responsible for your own meals, so bring easy to prepare foods because you will be sharing the kitchen.

June 27 (Sun) Saddle Mountain Hike - Class A/B
This is a fantastic 360-degree view hike with varied terrain, nice coastal vegetation, and some steepness. At the top, given good weather, we'll be able to see several Cascade peaks, the Pacific, and the city of Astoria. Hike about 5 miles round trip with a net elevation gain of just over 1600 feet. We will go at a moderate pace to get exercise but without running. Drive is 122 miles round-trip. Drivers need a trailhead parking permit.

September 16-19 Sunset Bay Campout
Enjoy the late summer at the beach at a campground with a beautiful setting
of a small protected cove. I have reserved campsites D-20 and D-21, one of
which someone is welcome to. These are tents sites but full hookup are available
in the same section nearby. Call to reserve your own site. I will lead a hike
along the coast visting Shore Acres with the public gardens, and opportunities
to bike and canoe/kayak are nearby.
