Everyone will be responsible for bringing one Mexican
dish to share with the group. You will be responsible
for your own breakfast and lunch. Nesika Lodge is
approximately 4.5 miles up from Multnomah Falls. If
you have any questions please contact me. Meal fees
will not be collected as this is a potluck event.
Normal lodge fees do apply, $5/night members,

May 10-11 Introduction to Backpacking - Deschute River - Class A
A 7.5 mile loop is perfect for beginners. We'll camp and cook in a lovely meadow 3.5 miles from the trailhead. Bring your friends who have always wanted to try backpacking, or young children who are able to carry their own sleeping bag and food. Binoculars are essential for bird watching. Sunday's return trail takes us via Ferry Springs, a 500 ft elevation gain. We should be back to our cars by 1pm and in town for Mother's Day Dinner.

May 17-18 (Sat-Sun) Herman Creek-Nobel Camp Backpack-Class C
We will be hiking the Herman Creek trail up to Nobel Camp. This is a class level between B and C with 6 to 8 miles and about 2800' of elevation gain. This trail does not offer a lot of views of the Gorge, but you will be immersed in old growth fir with trunks 6' in diameter. The hike itself will take us next to the creek passing by numerous small falls and streams that dump their waters into Herman Creek. After setting up camp, we can do a short hike to Tomlike Mtn, Green Point, Chinidere or even Wahtum lake. We can also leave those for Sunday morning or decide on a longer route back via Nick Eaton Ridge. Space is Limited so registration with the leader is mandatory. Dogs welcome on hike, must inform leader ahead of time.

July 6 - 11 (Sunday - Friday) Trinity Alps Backpack; Class B
Moderate Backpack in Northern California. Drive is approximately 400 miles each way. Start at the Swift Creek Trailhead (camp night of July 5 at Preachers Meadow car camp?)
Day one- Hike 5 miles to Granite Lake (6000 feet)
Day two- Explore the Granite Lake are, swim? The next two night's location will depend on snow level.
Day three- Hike with pack to Summit Lake. Explore Climb if desire?
Day four - Hike with pack to the Black Basin trail on the Bear Basin Trail. Will go by Diamond, Luella Lakes.
Day five- hike out on Bear Basin Trail (5 miles or so).
Either drive home or go to Weaverville to Spend night. An alternative itinerary would be to spend night 3 and 4 near the Black basin trail and do day hikes up to the lake basin and another hike to Mumford Meadow and Landers Lake.

Jul 24-29 (Thurs-Tues) Lake Plateau Backpack, Class B

The Lake Plateau in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Montana, is the destination for this 6-day backpack with base camp and off-trail exploration. This moderate loop features a gorgeous, lake-dotted, high altitude plateau with a myriad of side trip opportunities and peaks to bag, as well as spectacular Columbine Pass. The backpack is 36 miles, not including side trips. Elevation gain is 3,700 ft. Approved bear-proof food containers are required. The trip starts and ends in Big Timber, Montana. Group size limited to 8. Registration required.

July 26-27 (Sat-Sun) Bull of the Woods Loop Backpack; Class C Trip Full; Alternate only
The Bull of the Woods Loop is located in the Clackamas River Ranger District. The trip consists of numerous small lakes, lots of berry picking and beautiful forests. This is not considered a beginner hike. The loop is 29 miles round trip with a 6000 feet elevation gain. Space is limited, dogs allowed with leader approval. Must be able to hike a minimum of 15 mile days with steep elevation gain. We will start at the Pansy Lake Trailhead, and camp at Elk Lake. Must be able to provide backpack experience to leader. Registration with the leader is mandatory.

August 15-19 (Fri - Tues) The High Divide and Seven Lakes Basin Backpack - Class B+
Spectacular views of Mt, Olympus, but the elevation gains are modest and the distances very reasonable. North end of the Olympic National Park.
Friday night: Drive up. Camp at Sol Duc Hot Springs (Elevation 2000) Enjoy a good soak!
Saturday: Backpack to Seven Mile Camp (Elevation 3360) or other nearby camps.
Sunday: Backpack to Bogacheil Peak (Elevation 5120) and on to Hoh Lake. Overnight at Hoh.
Monday: Backpack to Deer Lake. Overnight at Deer.
Tuesday: Return via Deer Lake Trail; drive home.

Aug 24-29 (Sun - Fri) Spider Meadow - Buck Creek Pass Backpack, Class C

Hike through glorious meadows, cross mountain passes and view high summits on this loop in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, Washington. This trip involves cross-country travel between Spider Gap and Lyman Lake. There are many opportunities for side trips, including Image Lake often depicted on scenic calendars. Experience with snow travel and training in self-arrest with an ice axe are required. Bear-proof food containers are recommended. The backpack is 36 miles, not including side trips. Elevation gain is 8,900 ft. Group size limited to 8. Registration required.

- Sep 20-21 (Saturday-Sunday) Wapiki Lake - Indian Heaven Backpack; Class C
This is a beautiful hike with a class level between a B and C depending on the route we take. This first stretch is about 2.2 Miles with 1000 feet Elevation gain.
We can take a short detour to Deep Lake which is about 1/2 a mile. From there we continue the ascend to Lemei Rock doing 1.2 miles and ascending about 500 feet.
From there to Wapiki is about 1.1 mile descending about 1000 feet. The return is back to Cultus Lake on the same trail (2.3 miles going from 5240
to 5600 and back down to 5100 feet).
We then take the trail to the PCT to go around Bird mountain. This portion of the trail is about 6.2 miles with a steep descend on the way back.
Space is Limited so registration with the leader is mandatory. Dogs welcome on hike, must inform leader ahead of time.

Late Sep (dates TBD) Long John Lake Backpack, Class B
Enjoy fall colors among the sub-alpine meadows and myriad lakes and ponds of the William O. Douglas Wilderness, Washington. On this 3-day trip, we'll pick a lake for a base camp and then spend our time day hiking up Tumac Mountain for a panoramic view of the Cascades and visiting other lakes and viewpoints. The backpack is about 10 miles; side trips up to 20 miles extra. Elevation gain with backpack 1,000 ft. Group size limited to 12. Registration required.

October 10-13 (Friday-Monday) Enchanted Valley in the Olympic National Park Backpack; Class B+
Friday drive time is approximately 3.5 hours to Quinault, hike in 5 miles or so and camp.
Saturday hike to Enchanted Valley. Camp and explore area.
Sunday explore in the morning, return most of the way and camp along Quinault River.
Monday pack out and drive home.
Distance 27 miles round trip. Modest elevation gain of 1100 feet but a lot of rollercoastering along the way. Highlights of the trip bear, marmot, elk, and deer. Beautiful alpine mountain vistas. The destination is a meadow surrounded by towering peaks. There is an old lodge there built in 1932, now closed and boarded up.
