The View from Tyee

Tyee Winter Notes from Chair - Fall 2011

Always amazed how short summer is in the mountains. Our June Work Weekend shoveled drifts of snow to clear entry drive. By October, fall storms brought rain and cooler nights. Now, snow covers the Westleg Rd. closing it for another winter.

During the five work parties we accomplished the following: completed rebuilding the winter entrance, roofed the porch/deck, framed and sided the south roof extension, assembled scaffolding to repair damaged chimney flashing (thank you, George!), renovated shower enclosure with FRP, replenished wood storage, cleaned lodge, brushed out trails, burned slash, repaired kitchen stove (thank you, Joel & Allen!), and replaced refrigerator. To all the volunteers who participated in the summer work weekends, “Thank You!’

The Kitchen door to the roof/deck is closed until next summer when we can complete a floating deck, handrail, and screened food storage.

Winter opening closing is now in effect. Winter Hosts must be trained in the procedures by an experienced winter Tyee Host. Additionally, written instructions at Tyee must be followed precisely in order to prevent damage to the building and its contents. Host need to take full responsibility when performing these important procedures.
